SNOW QUEEN FTU

Written by Gwenda on November 11th 2013
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental

You will need:

Font of choice – I used Coventry Garden font, found

Scrapkit is a lovely Free to Use kit called Traditional Christmas by Redefined Designs, and is part of a collab.
You can download this kit

Tube of choice. I used a free to use tube called Royalty by Fygomatic.
You can visit his site

I have included this tube in my supplies
Snow, gold pattern and Winter scene are also in my supplies

Mask of choice – I used WSL84 from Wee Scots Lass.

Unzip snow.
Open other items from My Supplies
Place gold pattern into your PSP patterns folder (or use one of your own)

New canvas 600 x 600
Fill white.

Set foreground color to #2c5727 and background color to #4e0000
Make Background gradient – angle 315 with 1 repeat.

Layers – new raster layer.
Fill with green/red gradient.
Apply mask WSL84
In layers palette, merge group.
Stretch mask to all edges.

Frame 1 – Resize 30% then 75%. Paste above mask layer.
Free rotate left 15.
(To make it easier to follow, I named the parts of the frame as follows: outer scallop, Inner frame and dividing line.)

With magic wand, click on the red parts of the frame – that is the outer scallop and the inner frame.
Layers – new raster layer. Fill both with gold pattern.
Deselect.

Using selection tool again, click inside the dividing line. Selections – modify – expand 3. Layers – new raster layer. Fill black.
Deselect.

Move the black dividing line below the gold filled parts of the frame.
Give gold part of frame inner bevel of choice.
Merge gold down to black dividing line.
Dropshadow
Delete original red frame.

Winter Village (from my supplies) - Paste below frame and move up so it fits within the square are in the centre of the frame. Don’t worry about the excess – we will be sorting that out later.

OK . . . now for the fun bit – the Snow!!

Click on the Winter Village scene, which should be sitting just under the frame.
Go to Snow 484 x 484 and copy frame 1.
Back to your tag, and paste as a new layer. Rename SNOW1

If you don’t want to animate, do not paste any more snow layers, but go directly to ***

Back to Snow 484 x 484 and copy frame 2
Back to your tag and paste as a new layer above SNOW1.
Rename this one SNOW2.

Keep doing this with all the snow frames from Snow 484 x 484, pasting each one above the other and renaming as you go.
You should end up with 10 snow layers and a really messy looking tag lol.
Don’t Panic! Tidy-up time.

*** Click inside centre of frame with magic wand. Selections – modify – expand 8. Selections – invert. Click on the Winter scenery and hit delete. Click on each of the snow layer(s) in order, and hit delete.
Deselect.
Now in layers palette, go to each of the snow layers, and click the little eye to the left to close it. Do this to all snow layers except SNOW1.

Pinebranch – Resize 50% then 70%. Paste over frame layer and slide to bottom right corner.
Sharpen. Duplicate. Slide this one to the left.
Dropshadow both

Babybreath (from my supplies) – Erase the stalk. Paste over pinebranch layers and slide to bottom and right a bit.
Sharpen. Duplicate. Free rotate right 90. Slide right.
Dropshadow both.

Centrepiece – Resize 60% then 80%. Paste over babybreath layers and slide to bottom right corner.
Sharpen. Dropshadow

Candlepresent – Mirror. Resize 40% Paste above centerpiece layer and slide to bottom right corner.
Sharpen. Dropshadow

Bells – Resize 50% then 70%. Paste above candlepresent layer and slide to top right corner.
Sharpen. Dropshadow

Tube – Paste above Bells layer and slide to the left. Position as desired
Dropshadow.

Add any other embellishments of choice
Resize if desired.

Add copyrights

If you don’t want to do the animation, stop here.

Ready to Animate??

Open Animation Shop.

In PSP, close off white background.
In PSP make sure all snow layers are closed off, except SNOW1
Edit – Copy Special – Copy merged.
Go to Animation shop. Edit – paste – as new animation.

Back to PSP.
Close SNOW1 and open SNOW2.
Edit – Copy Special – Copy merged.
Go to Animation shop. Edit – paste – after current frame.

Back to PSP.
Close SNOW2 and open SNOW3.
Edit – Copy Special – Copy merged.
Go to Animation shop. Edit – paste – after current frame.

Repeat this last step, closing off one snow layer and opening the next until you have 10 frames in Animation shop.

In Animation Shop.
Edit – select all
Animation – animation properties.
Check box opaque and change colour to white. Click OK.

Edit – select all
Animation – frame properties. Change display time to 5

Save as a gif file.

I hope this wasn’t too confusing, as it’s a lovely snow effect if you take the time to do it.
Thanks for trying this tutorial and I would love to see your results!
